Damn, have to hold off that offensive for another turn. "I am so going to pound them with my planes next turn!" Then rain and storms. I think it is to get you use to making decisions and then they get tougher. The early ones are generally no brainers, but that ends quickly. Spain stays on the sidelines, I didn't pay attention and Spain joined the Axis.ĭo you want to try invading England? It better work because if it doesn't it doesn't matter because the US and USSR will move diplomatically to the Allies.ĭo you spend your valuable MPPs to diplomacy to influence a country to join you or not join your opponent? Perhaps delay the US or USSR from joining?ĭo you want to have Vichy France or wipe out France? I have had, in the few games I have played, but lots of hours! Axis send Africa Korp to Egypt in one game, keep them in Europe the next. I am however a bit worried about replayability of this game, what makes this game have good replayability? And Gary Grisby games are a bit expensive for my taste. I like to manage combat rather than diplomatic treaties, so that is what drew my attention to this game more than any other I have stumbled across. Yeah, I mean I have the time for micromanagement, but I cannot imagine myself sitting down long enough to learn hundreds of items on a skill tree or learn every single detail about gaining fuel. Also War in Europe is a smaller scale in hexes, so there is more area I think it is 20 miles per hex vs 40 in this one? I will probably pick it up myself. The Pacific and SE Asia bring a whole new set of challenges that Europe doesn't. The devs are still supporting it and this game as well. Especially if you aren't into the Pacific and South East Asia conflict. I don't know what the Steam sale will bring, but if SC War in Europe is cheaper, then you could try that first.

Total War series is as close to a compromise, but I have my beefs with some of their systems as well.

PG, PC and OoB are fun, but don't give the strategic level. However I do want to see my grand strategy play out. At this point in my life I don't have time to delve into that micromanagement.

I have played Gary Grigsby games, Operation Art of War (which taught me a LOT about how to deploy and attack and handle supply) as well as HOI and HOI IV. Originally posted by Mercutio:It is deeper than it looks. Is there a good game in the middle of the two that is combat-oriented but still has great depth. This game to me looks more fun than HoI4 because it is more combat oriented than the tedious micromanagement and research system that hearts of iron has. Honestly, I this game will be my first game in this genre. Also I saw on their forum that the problem of the AI rejiggering your lines at times was still there (or back). It seemed like whoever has the biggest doom stack wins. Originally posted by Mercutio:I like the concept of HOI4, but I didn't like the combat that much. If you liked PG, PC, OoB you will probably like this one. I guess it comes down to, if you like Paradox games, you will probably like HOI. So you are correct, coming here there is a bias on my part. My time has been exploring different strategies, especially as the Axis. MP looks like it has a LOT of room for shenanigans. So far I have seen the game play out in different ways after the fall of France. Except you choose where to fight and have control over the economy and diplomacy. This game combines combat similar, but not the same because of the continuity of research to Panzer General/ Panzer Corp and Order of Battle. Also the AI seems to understand those rules for the most part.

I would call it elegant in that it is simple in concept, but there are depths and decisions that have a large impact.

Maybe it is just not my cup of tea.Īlso, like most games, the more complex it is, the worse the AI is at handling it IMO. I like the concept of HOI4, but I didn't like the combat that much.
